Today you will be a forensic chemist. 

A bag of white powder has been confiscated by the airport customs.  You need to find out what white powder it is?

Aim: To learn about the makeup of different white powders.

There are  a number of different white powders in our everyday life. Some of these are harmful and others are not. Test the four white powders listed to see which one has been found at the airport.

Here are some examples of everyday kitchen white powders.

Flour, Cornflour, Sugar, Salt, Baking Soda, Baking Powder, Icing Sugar, Tartaric Acid

Citric Acid, Gluten Free flour

You will be given a small amount of 4 white powders on your cardboard. On the black cardboard using a magnifying glass look at the powders.

Look at them under your magnifying glass and record what you see. 

These are the four powders we will be using. Upload a photo of each powder. 

1.  Cornflour
2.  Baking Soda
3.  Salt
4.  Sugar 

Before you add the iodine, vinegar or water you will need to divide each powder into 3.

Materials

1.  vinegar
2.  water
3.  iodine
4.  flat surface
5.  a dropper
6.   something to record for the reaction
7. paper

Steps

1. split powders into three piles
2. add in a drop of iodine to 1 of the 3 piles 
3. add a drop of water into another on of the piles
4.  add a drop of vinegar into the last pile then repeat for every powder
5. see what happens

Findings:

Appearance	white	white	white	white
Texture	cuby	crumbly	soft / crumbly	soft
Smell	sweet	salty	cooked	has no smell
Iodine	fizzing	crystal	fluffy	no reaction
Water	crystal	crystal	dissolved	obleck
Vinegar	grey	crystal	fizzy	no reaction

Write a paragraph about your findings.

what happened in this experiment was really cool we got a reaction out of almost all of the powders i hope we get to do this again.

Making Sherbet

Once you have completed your blog and cleaned up all your equipment you can make sherbet.

Using the following recipe you can make sherbet.

Sherbet recipe

Recipe: 

1 tsp of powdered drink crystals (eg refresh)
1/4 tsp citric acid
1/2 tsp icing sugar
1/4 tsp -baking soda.
Put all ingredients into a zip lock bag, stir, and enjoy.

Materials:

1.  powdered sugar

2.  any juice flavor 

3.  plastic bag

4.  something to stir with

5.  baking soda

Steps. 

1.grab a zip lock bag

2. place in sugar or citric acid

3. place in sugar or citric acid

4. put in juice 

5. stir

6. taste

Findings:

What were we doing in Drama
In drama for the past week when have been doing freeze frams  my group (Jessica, Felicity, Ella) were doing a freeze fram of a game we are making called icaball  its a mixture of ice skating and basketball but we didn't have enough time because of the something from last fridaay

DMIC Maths learning

Hello my fellow readers today i will be talking about a little math's activity my class did. I was in a group of 4 the people were me Emily Heaven & Jessica. So basically the question was two children are working for there mother over the holidays and who would you be to earn the money for working. Ariana had 10$ each day and it went up by $2. you could choose from another person that gets 2$ each day but it doubles by each day. i choose the boy and skip counted in 2 so the question would be 14 x 2 =44 That's what i did for math's today thanks for reading.!
